Buenos dias los pescadores! What a great end to the month of February, call it El Nino or whatever you want, but the buffet continues! Our usual winter roster of inshore species were available in many different areas, as well as, some dorado, a couple billfish, and some yellowfin tuna. Beginning of the month, fishing was a bit spotty as conditions were more uncooperative for anglers. Not much rain this month, but a lot of wind during the middle of the week, which seemed to settle down towards the weekends. Read the rest of this entry »

Happy New Year los pescadores! Time flies when you’re having fun, and that’s exactly what we’ve been having in La Paz. Talk about a great place to get away to: weather has been in the 70’s on average during the day, sometimes a bit chilly at night, but more importantly, the winds and rains have been pretty cooperative this month. I know you’re here for the fishing report, not the micro-climate forecast, so “let’s get down to business.” Read the rest of this entry »

Hola mis amigos. Well, this is it! Next month will be our 1st tournament put on as a company: Fishing 4 Freedom. We worked hard over the past 6 months to promote and gain traction for this fund raising cause. Our biggest push to date will take place on Sept 2, 2009 at GIO’s Restaurant & Bistro in La Mesa CA. Tickets are still available for the dinner and we are just about full for the actual tournament being held at the Gran Sueno Resort, Sept 11-14, 2009.
Well, onto the report from this month: August marks the month of the Annual ‘Torneo Deportiva Internacional,’ hosted by the Abaroa Family, which took place on Sat the 15th. This year was their 9th annual. For my 1st time, I actually drove from San Diego to La Paz for the tournament. The drive took about 14 hours, was absolutely beautiful, and we saw all kinds of things!

Buenos dias los pescadores; Happy U.S. Independence Day. We let the MARIANA have a much needed rest following the Night Train Swim Team’s exciting attempt at a long distance relay swim world record. That took place during the last week of June and into the 1st few days of July, so we used mostly our smaller vessels and pangas for most of July. The remainder of the month, was an absolute buffet as far as fishing goes; EVERYTHING was being caught! La Paz is known for some of the best and most diverse fishing in the world; this month definitely proved that to be true! Read the rest of this entry »

Buenos Dias! This week marked a very special occasion for the crew of La Paz Fishing Charters. We hosted the Night Train Swim Team, a relay swim team with a goal, actually a world record in their sites. Earlier in the year, I was contacted by Vito Bialla, owner of Bialla Vineyards in Napa, an excellent flavored and VERY high rated red wine. He always presents a “straight to the point” and easy dialogue: “Anthony, we want to set the world record for the longest, continuous, relay swim. We want to raise money and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project and wanted to know if the MARIANA and LaPazFishingCharters.com is willing to be our escort vessel.

Buenos dias los pescadores! Well, June picked up right where May left off, with Dorado season officially under way. There is still decent inshore fishing, with pargo, pompano, jacks, roosterfish, and still some Sierra Mackerel running, but most anglers aren’t fishing inshore. This is really what summer fishing in La Paz is all about, dorado jumping in the boat! Read the rest of this entry »

Buenos dias los pescadores. May was a good month for fishing here in La Paz. There was an excellent variety and good sizes, with the winter bite winding down and summer fishing heating up. The waters are definitely becoming more friendly for pelagic species, hopefully setting the tone for the summer. Inshore fishing is still strong though: huge pargo, charging Yellowtail, and large schools of Sierra Mackerel highlight the inshore bite. Read the rest of this entry »

Buenos dias los pescadores! Well, the action continues: if it was even possible for the fishing to get better than last week, it did. Early summer fishing this week with warmer waters, literally a buffet out there. Great inshore fishing, as big pargos and grouper are still spawning in the shallows. Better pelagic fishing this week too; more billfish, wahoo, and big bull dorados- this is what it’s all about. Read the rest of this entry »

Buenos dias los pescadores! One phrase can sum up the fishing this past week: Free-for-All. Everything was available this week, with anything from solid Amberjack to speedy Wahoo being caught. All in a day’s work as we like to say. I’d have to honestly say, the only thing we didn’t catch or hear anybody catch, was the Yellowfin Tunas that were recently rumored to be in the area. This is the fishing that keeps the popularity of these waters growing and most importantly, smiles on angler’s faces. Read the rest of this entry »

Buenos dias mis amigos! I hope everyone is well and looking forward to the spring/summer fishing seasons. The fishing is definitely showing some Spring legs, the waters are transitioning and so are the fish. Winds can still be a bit of a challenge, but solid variety of fish is always something anglers seek while fishing the Sea of Cortez- and variety is what they’re getting! As they’ve said, “No pain, no gain.” Read the rest of this entry »
